Alternatives to Drinking Coffee

Coffee is a very common beverage for many, while some people may choose not to drink it for a number of reasons. For some, the high amount of caffeine in coffee can cause nervousness, agitation, digestive distress and headaches. If you need to replace coffee for some reason, then at least your alternative should offer very similar benefits as well. The following are very good alternatives to coffee that you might choose to consider:

Chicory Coffee

Like coffee beans, chicory root can be roasted, ground and brewed into a delicious hot beverage. It tastes very similar to coffee but is caffeine-free. It is also a rich source of inulin and may aid in digestion and support a healthy gut by promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria; particularly Bifidobacterial and Lactobacilli. In addition, it can stimulate your gallbladder to produce more bile, which may be beneficial for fat digestion.

Matcha Tea

Matcha is a type of green tea made by steaming, drying and grinding the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant into a fine powder. Many of the proposed benefits of matcha are attributed to antioxidants it contains. Green tea has also been associated with reduced weight and body fat, as well as a lower risk of type 2 diabetes.

Golden Milk

Golden milk is a rich, caffeine-free substitute for coffee. This warm beverage is a good mixture of spices such as ginger, cinnamon, turmeric and black pepper. Besides giving this drink a beautiful golden color, turmeric may have powerful anti-inflammatory properties due to the potent chemical curcumin.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is made by fermenting crushed apples using yeast and bacteria. This drink should not be taken without diluting it first; as it contains 4–6% of acetic acid which may burn your mouth and throat.

Studies suggest that kombucha may boost your immune system, improve cholesterol levels and blood glucose levels in people with diabetes.

This is a nourishing natural energizer containing a number of essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. Due to its easy digestibility and rapid assimilation, it is a natural energy supplement, whether alone or added to a protein-type supplement drink.

Green Smoothies

Licorice Tea
