Bigilla dip – a Maltese delicacy packed with protein

About fava and broad beans

Fava and broad beans are packed with protein, vitamins, minerals and fiber. Fava and broad beans are rich in manganese, folate, copper, potassium and phosphorus. These beans are packed with antioxidants such as glutathione, that protect your body from free radicals that could cause serious illnesses.

The manganese and copper in these beans are good for your bones, by helping your body retain calcium.

Fava beans are rich in iron, which help reduce the symptoms of anemia, by helping your red blood cells carry oxygen around your body.

The magnesium and potassium in these beans helps reduce blood pressure by helping to dilate blood vessels, therefore keeping your heart healthy.

Fave and broad beans help lower cholesterol, as they contain alot of soluble fiber. This soluble fiber absorbs water in your gut, making your stool softer and helping your body remove harmful cholesterol from your system.

Fava beans are good for weight loss

Fava beans are good for weight loss, as they are low in calories but high in protein and fiber. One portion of 200g has only circa 200 calories, but contains in it 10 grams of fiber and 15 grams of protein.
