This article will take you through the art of staying healthy while eating and drinking in moderation.

HOW TO EAT HEALTHY

To anyone out there, eating sounds primitive. It’s something everybody should be able to do. What to eat, on the other hand, remains a mystery to most people. In a bid to be reduce calories consumed and loose fat, a lot of people have driven themselves into anorexia nervosa. This is a condition whereby someone does not eat regularly, or intentionally initiates vomiting after eating. They do this as means to lose weight, but as mentioned earlier, this is the wrong approach.

Under-eating has a lot of disadvantages. It affects the mood, thereby giving the individual a low/depressed mood. It affects productivity, as the person feels weak during most parts of the day. It also affects hormonal cycles, thereby directly affecting fertility in people of reproductive age group.

The other extreme is overeating. This happens when a person eats much more than the body needs. This is equally bad because the excess calories are converted to fat and stored in the body.

For vegetarians and vegans, eating healthy would not be too deviant from their normal dietary plan. Weight loss will most likely not be a problem for this group of people. This is because they do not consume animal products, and so they are not exposed to animal fat. However, because vegans do not eat meat and other dairy products, they are prone to protein deficiency. They can also become deficient in other micronutrients which are found in dairy products. How does a vegan combat this diet related issue? Vegans are advised to make adjustments to their diet, such that they eat more of dairy alternatives. Some of the excellent alternatives includes almond milk, coconut milk and soymilk.  Eating more of legumes such as lentils, beans and peas is also a great way of keeping protein in adequate supply. Research have shown that the vegan diet is very healthy, and as such a vegan has less chances of dying from heart attack and other cardiovascular accident.

For a non-vegan, diet adjustment will be more drastic, especially if weight loss is also a goal. Apart from reducing fat intake, more fruits and vegetables should be introduced into the daily diet. The reduced fatty foods will enhance weight loss, while the fruits and vegetables will supply adequate calories, vitamins and minerals the body needs. Watermelon has been shown to be very efficient for weight loss.

What is the place of late night meals? Does eating after dinner time, late in the night, really matters when you want to lose fat and stay healthy? The answer is yes. Eating late at night will not allow you lose fat easily. Recent studies have shown that eating dinner late, or eating any other meal late at night after dinner can adversely affect a healthy body system. Late night foods has been directly linked to obesity (which happens due to inability to lose fat), high blood sugar level, and associated heart pathologies. People who eat late at night always find it difficult to sleep quickly. This can affect their efficiency and productivity at work the next day. The healthy thing to do when you feel hungry late at night is to eat light fruits and vegetables. Fruits such as apples, oranges and carrots should be preferred over banana (which has a lot of calories).

THE HEALTHY DRINK

Drinking enough water is important. It is said that an average adult needs at least 3 liters of water daily. Drinking enough water daily helps kidney function. There is no arguing that it is important to keep the kidneys healthy. Fitness is not just about how fast you are able to lose fat, it also entails keeping the body organs healthy.

Dehydration is one of the top causes of acute kidney injury. In today’s world, one can go for several days on soda, alcohol and wine without drinking water. This is a disaster because the body needs pure water just as much as it needs good food. Drinking plenty water enables the kidneys to flush out the toxins building up in the body. Adequate water intake also makes weight loss easy by aiding bowel movement.

Why not wine or alcohol? Apart from preventing you from taking water, alcohol and wine have detrimental effect on the body. This is especially seen in the liver where it causes inflammation of the liver cells, leading to liver cirrhosis. If caught early, liver cirrhosis can be treated. However, if it is advanced, then it might not be treatable.

Soda, carbonated drinks, and factory processed fruit juice are enemies of weight loss. They contain a lot of calories in form of sugar. Some of them also contain various preservatives that can be carcinogenic. They are not a good replacement for water in the body.

It is generally agreed that water is good for the body, but it is also good to have another form of healthy drink. This other option should be non-alcoholic, should not contain a lot of calories, and it should not affect weight loss. It should also contain moderate to no sugar so that you can lose fat. A good adjuvant for water is a homemade juice. This can be made from one type of fruit, or it can be a blend of different types of fruits. Homemade juice is always preferred because of its purity. You can be sure of what you are drinking and its constituents.

It is safe to say that knowing what to eat and drink will save you a lot of visit to the doctor. Whether or not you are a vegan, eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. Also try to drink as much water as you can. As mentioned earlier, an average of 3 liters of water is what the body needs daily for proper kidney function. This diet plan is not just for someone who wants to lose fat alone, it also goes for everyone who wishes to stay healthy.
